Vital Reading season preview

Club: Millwall

Founded: 1885

Nickname: The Lions

Ground: The New Den (Capacity: 20,146)

When we face off: Tues 16th September (H), Sat 24th January (A)

Last season finish: 19th – Championship

Manager: Ian Holloway – The former Blackpool manager surprised a few by opting to take over at Millwall last season, but managed to do what was asked of him and keep the Lions in the division. Like many others managers in the Championship at the moment, he will want to be judged from now as he has had his first pre-season with his players.

Key player: Byron Webster – A very good signing for Millwall this summer on a free, a parternship of him and Shittu/ Robinson is one that would fit the physicality of this division perfectly. The former Yeovil player stands at 6’4 and his aerial presence in the box is notable at both ends, scoring nine goals over the past two seasons.

Season Preview: It was always going to be interesting to see how Millwall coped with life after Kenny Jackett and as a few predicted, not very well. The Steve Lomas reign was tainted from the start with his West Ham connections, so that was an appointment waiting to fail. Bringing in Holloway was a smart move and managed to keep them up, but will really want to progress the Lions this season, having made some good buys in the window – acquiring the experience of Carlos Edwards and Ricardo Fuller.
