An undisclosed fee has taken Reading’s Tariqe Fosu to Charlton on a permanent basis.

Limited to the one first team appearance at Reading, against Derby to end the 2014-15 season, Fosu has previously been on loan with Fleetwood and Accrington, spending most of last season at Colchester.

During his time at Colchester Fosu, 21, made 33 League Two appearances helping the U’s to an eighth-place finish, which wasn’t quite enough to secure a play-off place. However, he’ll play in League One next season after signing a two year deal with Charlton.

Fosu told Charlton’s Official Website: ‘When I heard [Charlton manager] Karl [Robinson] was in for me, it made the decision for me. He’s worked with a lot of young players so hopefully I can produce for him’

His new boss Karl Robinson added: ‘He’s one that excites fans, his feet are phenomenal and hopefully we’ll be seeing flashes of that next season.’

The academy graduate most likely wasn’t going to force his way into Jaap Stam’s future plans so midfielder Fosu has probably made the right decision in taking his leave of the Madejski Stadium on a permanent basis.

No doubt Fosu, who will be wished well, will see his progress tracked at Charlton as the Royals hope he doesn’t prove to be one that got away.
