Tabb: Something has got to change

Reading midfielder Jay Tabb has branded the Royals’ inability to hold a lead a ‘joke’ and says something needs to change in order to start winning more games.

The 28-year old spoke to Tim Dellor after the game and sounded extremely frustrated, as the Royals once again failed to see out a lead, which also means they have dropped back into the relegation zone at 19th. Tabb has been one of the most outstanding performers in recent games for Brian McDermott’s side, but admits everyone needs to improve as he believes it is becoming a ‘joke’.

Speaking on BBC Radio Berkshire, the former Coventry player said: ‘It’s a joke really. How many times have we taken the lead this season and we’ve won once. We’ve got to change that. We didn’t come into this league to get battered every week. Something’s got to change or it’s going to be a long, hard season. As players we’ve got to be on the same wavelength and we’re obviously not.’

‘We’re either too deep or too high, we’re all over the place at the moment. That’s what it feels like on the pitch. Instead of controlling the game, as a team we’re giving away too many chances. If you look at the average number of shots teams have had on our goal this season, it’s too many. You can’t give away 18 shots and expect your keeper to be man of the match every week. We’ve got to change things.’

These outstanding words from Jay Tabb should be planted all over the dressing room at the moment, as everything Tabby has stated there is so true and the fans can see it just as well. The amount of shots that we are letting the opposition have is criminal in any league, let alone the best league in the world. Something does need to change, but what though? The players or the manager? Time will tell.
