Reading have been linked with a potential move for Tottenham defender Ledley King.
The rumour was reported by the Twitter account ‘Agent_ITK’, that the Royals could be set to move for the former England defender when his contract is up at the end of the season. The credibility of this account is unknown but cannot be taken too seriously.
King, 31, has a chronic knee injury that only allows him play once a week and instead of training with his team mates, he swims and does personal training to keep fit. He has spend all of his career at Spurs, where he has made over 250 appearances.
As it stands, Reading only have two recognised centre half’s in their current squad in Kaspars Gorkss and Alex Pearce. Other central defenders Sean Morrison is on loan at Huddersfield Town, while Michael Hector is currently learning his trade with League Two side Barnet.

Gotta be joking. I’d love the King to join the Royals but he’ll be with Spurs as a coach next season. I’d be surprised if he kept playing past the summer.
sadly Ledley has lost it boys. he is a genuine spurs legend and for me the best defender we have had at the club in my lifetime and is possibly a starter in our best ever Spurs XI, but he simply cannot run anymore and is playing from experience. he still retains a good positional game, but has zero recovery and I like many spurs fans hope he sees sense and retires at a time when he hasnt yet tarnished his football image by playing too long.
Oh and I done necesarily follow the idea of Ledley moing into coaching. Being a great player doesnt mean you can coach.
Surely he could teach young players a lot. His positioning and leadership are some of the best I’ve ever seen. He also loves Spurs with a passion which I think is a characteristic we need at the minute.
I think it all depends on what Ledley wants to do after the summer. Coaching could be an idea but could he have another year or two left in him? Gareth Southgate said yesterday if he stayed injury free then he would have been the best centre half in England, someone of his quality could surely play for a little while longer.
Agree with Ox in the opinion that his playing days are behind him. He started the season fairly well but has really declined in recent months. Its painful to watch the man, who was at one point, in my opinion anyway, the best defender in the country, playing to such a small fraction of his ability at the moment. If his contract isn’t renewed, I can’t see him moving on anywhere, and agree with bizniz that he will probably take up some kind of back room role at the lane. If he does want to continue playing, I would love to see him turn out for the royals, but he does come with a huge, HUGE warning.
I was at Wembley yesterday – shocking result aside, it was sad to see Ledley clearly struggling to keep up with the pace. As someone said above he has no recovery in him now. He could have played for any team in the world if fit – he truly is that good. I dont agree with the comment he is a good leader though – far to quiet and nice to get the best out of his team – no coincidence that we (Spurs) dont win things. All winning teams have born leaders like I hate to say it John Terry, Viera, Roy Keane, Bryan Robson et al. Something we havent had since the days of Graham Roberts (although Gary Mabbutt was almost there). Scott Parker should be club captain next season
