Royals impress in third friendly

Reading’s good pre-season schedule continued, as they beat League Two outfit Wycombe 2-0 at Adams Park.

Once again, it was a strong selection from Adkins, opting to play with Akpan and Hector as the two holding midfielders, which is likely how it be against Wigan in two weeks time. Adam Federici played the whole game in goal, but Alex McCarthy will do the same on Tuesday night.

The first half had a higher tempo to that one of the first friendly against Exeter, but we still could have been guilty of moving it too slow. Wycombe did not get a sniff in the game, as Pavel Pogrebnyak’s header gave us the lead just before half time, from an Obita cross.

Our dominance continued in the second half, but played at a higher intensity, creating some good chances. Ryan Edwards was at the heart of most of our good play and it was his cross that gave us a second, as Taylor got across his defender to finish well from five yards.

Another good work out and with the new season starting in just two weeks, it’s good to see the team playing with confidence and attempting to play through the thirds more. Edwards and Akpan were the stand out players for me, but some good performances all across the board.

Starting XI: Federici, Gunter, Pearce, Morrison, Obita, Akpan, Hector (Cummings HT), Robson-Kanu (Blackman 60), Edwards, Taylor, Pogrebnyak

Team on 75 minutes: Federici, Long, Sweeney, Cooper, Cummings, Tshibola, Kuhl, Stacey, Blackman, Griffin, Tanner
