Nigel Adkins made his delight clear, as his side comfortably beat Wycombe in a friendly yesterday.

We traveled to the League Two outfit for their third pre-season friendly, having beaten Exeter and drawn with Yeovil. Pavel Pogrebnyak’s header just before half-time gave us the lead, before Jake Taylor’s smart finish gave us a victory that was duly deserved at Adams Park.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC site, Adkins said: ‘I thought the workrate of the players was phenomenal, and their movement in baking hot conditions. We created numerous opportunities, and the players worked extremely hard. I’m very pleased with the players’ fitness.’

‘The whole team ethos is there, the workrate and the desire to pass, move and penetrate. We had an array of passing on show. Big Pav scored a goal at the far post which we’re really pleased about and is something we’ve looked at. That’s two in three for him now.’

You can’t disagree with the manager, the work rate was top notch, although Wycombe didn’t really make it too hard for us. Our general control of the game and our willingness to keep the ball and move it quickly (mainly in the second half), was very good to see.
