Rodgers speaks out over sacking

A week after his shock sacking by the club, former Reading manager Brendan Rodger’s has broken his silence on the decision to relieve him of his duties. The most interesting part of the interview is his critism of the clubs chief executive Nigel Howe.


He thought that the communication between Howe and himself should have been much better and stated this at a previous board meeting in November. Speaking to the Reading Post he said, ‘I felt we needed more communication between the chief executive and I. I never received one call from him and I felt we needed to (be in contact more), so I stipulated that at the meeting.’


He refuses to blame Sir John Madejski because he feels that it was not the Chairman who made the decision to sack him. ‘The chairman is an honest and loyal man and I could see it was hurting him. As soon as I walked in I knew on the chairman`s face. I still have a big respect for him, but in my heart I`m not sure the chairman made the decision.’


Fans who were upset to see Rodgers leave, felt that he wasn’t give the time to rebuild the squad after mass changes to the playing staff in the summer with the clubs best players sold. He has said that if he knew he would only get six months to turn it around then he would have done things differently, but felt the club was progressing. ‘If I`d known I would only be given six months then I would have done things differently, but they didn`t really give me a chance.’
