Vital Reading Season Preview – Reading

Club: Reading

Founded: 1871

Nickname: The Royals

Ground: Madejski Stadium (Capacity: 24,161)

Last season finish: 1st – Championship

Manager: Brian McDermott – The former Slough Town manager has very much become a Reading legend, despite only two and a half years at the helm. Having guided us away from relegation in the 2009/10 season, he guided us to the play-off final in the 2010/11 season and finally achieved promotion in the 2011/12 campaign by winning the Championship.

Key player: Danny Guthrie – The former Newcastle midfielder signed for the Royals in July and has made a lasting impact in pre-season. A good central midfielder with superb vision and passing ability that could create chances for the strike duo of Pogrebnyak and Le Fondre.

Season Preview: Despite many bookies tipping us for an immediate return to the Championship, I feel we should be OK. I think we have strengthened very well and considering we haven’t spend major money, additions in January (if needed) can be done. I would still however be very happy with 17th place!
