Reading started the month with a fantastic win at home to high flying Middlesbrough and then made it two wins two after the International break by beating Charlton 1-0 in a cagey affair. However, two poor away results on the bounce at Rotherham and Fulham respectively leave Reading outside the play-offs heading into their game against table toppers Brighton.

Here are the october player of the month nominees:

Orlando Sa-

Despite only scoring one goal in October, Sa has been a key figure in the lone striker role. Orlando has a wonderful physical presence and wins the majority of arial duels. His hold up play and ability to bring other players in to play has proved to be a crucial part in what Reading are about. He’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Nick Blackman-

Nick has scored in all but one game in October and has again impressed. His change in fortune is a big factor in Reading’s rise this season and it needs to continue for us to stay up their. Unfortunately he’s been pushed out wide now Vydra is back from injury, but he still causes problems in this position.

Ali Al-Habsi-

Al-Habsi came in to this month very low on confidence after making mistakes in all of his previous games. However, when Bond was ruled out of the Boro game through injury, Al-Habsi put in a commanding performance resulting in a clean sheet. After the International break, Ali had a quieter game but he still had to get the clean sheet which he did. The Omani keeper then put in a top performance at Rotherham to scrape a point.
