New Deals for Icelandic Pair

Iceland internationals, Brynjar Gunnarsson and Ivar Ingimarsson have put pen tot paper on new contract deals with Reading FC.

Ingy`s deal shall see him stay with the club till the end of the 2008/09 season while Gunnarsson`s deal ends one year before then in the summer of 2008.

Ingimarsson, 29, who stood in as captain while Graeme Murty was injured did not miss a single minute of league action in Reading`s Championship winning season. He is very pleased that the deal has come around, saying:

‘The contract is recognition from the club that they have belief in me and think I can perform well in the Premiership, so I am very thankful for that.’

Ingimarsson has been plying his trade at Reading since 2003 when he joined from Wolves. The central defender has made 142 starts since then and scored eight goals – including the solitary goal that helped Reading beat Man City at the Madejski Stadium earlier this season.

Gunnarsson joined the club in the summer of 2005 on a free transfer from Watford.` The versatile Icelander has played in central defence, right back, rightr wing and a central midfield role so far this season:

‘I’m pleased to have been given this contract extension and I’m looking forward to the next year and a half.’

Director of Football, Nicky Hammond is delighted that the international duo have penned deals that will see them play at the club for a few more years saying:

“Ivar and Brynjar are both consummate professionals and are fine examples of what Reading Football Club is all about.

“They have made a big impact during their time at the club and we are delighted that they have signed new contracts.”
