Reading boss Brian McDermott could be set to dip into the loan market this transfer window after being told by the Reading board that he will not be able to spend the Matt Mills transfer money, which saw him go to Leicester.

Reading have already tried to bring in Hull defender Paul McShane on loan but Hull themselves are stuggling for defensive cover and the Royals would have to pay all of his £25,000- a-week wages.

The Reading Post also revealed that McDermott was keen in re-signing Burnley defender Andre Bikey but has soon moved onto other targets.

The Royals are desperate for another defender following the departures of Mills and Ivar Imgimarsson, with the Royals only having two recognised centre halfs in Alex Pearce and Sean Morrison.

McDermott is keen to sign a defender that will possibly join the club in the long-term aswell, similarly to the Andy Griffin transfer.

Rumours have also fluctuated over the possible signing of Manchester City youngster Ben Mee, who had a successful spell at Leicester last season.

Turns out Mee has gone to Burnley then, typical! Hopefully that paves the way for Bikey then 😉
