Reading manager Brian McDermott has confirmed his interest in Brentford defender Karleigh Osbourne, amid reports that a move for the defender could be close to completion.

With Sean Morrison departing to Huddersfield yesterday on loan and Bongani Khumalo soon to return to parent club Tottenham, McDermott is keen to bolster his defensive options.

The Royals boss was speaking to Jonny Fordham of the Reading Post and stated that: ‘With Sean going out on loan, there is a possibility that we might bring in someone like Karleigh Osborne to cover.’

The 23-year old central defender has gained many plaudits for his performances at Griffin Park and is out of contract in the summer after rejecting the clubs final improved offer.

The fee is believed to be around £300k for the London-born centre half. He has made 136 appearences for the Bee’s, scoring six times in the process. Charlton are also believed to be interested.
