The Royals announced on Friday that Czech midfield Meastro Marek Matejovsky has been sold to Sparta Prague for an undisclosed fee. Matejovsky arrived at the Madejski Stadium for £1.2million in January 2008 when we were in the Premiership but failed to make the positive impact expected to help us avoid relegation that year.

Under Steve Coppell in our first season back in the Championship he was expected to be on of the stars of the team but failed to live up to his billing, all be it partly through injuries, as we failed in the play off’s against Burnley after blowing our hopes of automatic promotion.

He was then tipped to be a ‘Brendan Rodgers’ type of player but again failed to establish himself in the side and continued to be the luxury player we could not afford.

Brian McDermott used him as a sub occasionally before a stomach injury ended his season, and ultimatly his Reading career, early.

He showed during his time here that he could be an amazing player with the kind of passing range far superior to any other player in our side, and some wonderful goals that won’t be forgotten in a hurry like the screamer at Anfield. However he was so inconsistant with it that he was actually better known for the passes that went astray, as well as his poor tackling and shere number of bookings he picked up.

Many said he wasn’t given a chance but I don’t think it is any coincidence that three different managers failed to find a space in their starting 11 on a regular basis for him.

Perhaps he just joined the wrong club and a move back to European soil will suit his game much better, we will wait and see. Vital Reading would like to wish him all the best at his new club but not many will bee sad to see him leave with the money recieved rumoured to be £650,000. Add to that the money off the wage bill, it could help to secure the signing of Andy Griffin.

All the best Marek.

See ya! Always thought he would be a star at the club, but quickly realised he wasn’t going to do it at the Mad Stad.
