Hunt enjoyed deeper role

We saw Noel Hunt adopt a slightly more deeper role in attack against Liverpool last week and the striker said he enjoyed his unfamiliar role.

The Republic of Ireland international started for the first time in the Adkins era and came the closest to scoring at the Madejski on Saturday, having his effort well-saved by Pepe Reina. Hunt was playing more deeper as a second striker to the Pog and said how the team performance proves how the side are gradually improving.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Hunty said: ‘I was playing in a deeper role and I really enjoyed it. Hopefully I can keep on going and keep on learning how we want to play. We’re still in the race. We looked sharp and fit – we’ll be working on that this week and then we can bring on Norwich.’

‘Hopefully we can get a couple more chances then and put them in the back of the net this time. We were solid, had a good structure about us and passed it well. It’s the new way we’re playing and it’s starting to come together. It was a point against Liverpool – a quality side. We were our full worth for the draw.’

Noel had a decent game on Saturday, not outstanding, but certainly not poor. In the next five games and last Saturday included, Hunt will be playing to earn a new contract under the new gaffer and it wouldn’t surprise me if he got a two-year extension.
