It was been a largely uninspiring season for many of Reading’s players, but Noel Hunt claims the whole squad is hurt by relegation.

The 29-year old was an unused substitute as Reading’s stalemate with QPR on Sunday meant that both sides were relegated back to the Championship. Hunt, whose contract runs out this summer, has been linked with a move Brian McDermott’s Leeds and more recently, the Championship duo Cardiff City and Hull City.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Hunt said: “Looking around the dressing room the boys were devastated. We knew we needed to win and we just couldn`t get over the line. Now we play for pride. You put on that shirt that`s got that Reading FC crest on it and you`d be embarrassed not to give anything but 100%.’

‘It`s a tough one today, but we`ve got three games left and we need to make sure we do ourselves justices and make the fans proud. This is a great club, a fantastically run club and if you look at what we`ve been doing for the last two or three weeks under the new regime it`s been a lot better.’

Honest and emotional words from the forward who is always one of the first to face the media following tough situations. I hope Hunt stays here for at least another season, as I think he can still be a good asset in the Championship next season.
