Owner Anton Zingarevich was questioned about his sacking of Brian McDermott and did he regret it? Oh no, he did not.

The Russian tycoon made the decision to sack the current Leeds boss in March, following seven straight losses and sitting just one place from bottom in the Premier League. Over a month on, Zingarevich is seeing the positives of appointing Nigel Adkins and how the team are performing on the pitch.

Quoted by the Official Reading FC website, Anton said: ‘From the way we have performed, from the first game that Nigel came in to today, I think it’s a completely different performance. We were holding the ball, controlling the ball well, passing it, we’re moving it – for me we are going in the right direction in terms of the football.’

‘That was the intention, not to give the manager eight games to either stay up or not stay up, it doesn’t matter – the intent was that he understands what team he has so he has enough time to go for the players that we want to go for. Otherwise he comes to the summer and he has to start from the beginning. The intent was for him to come in early.’

Many questioned Anton by making this call, but that all seemed to be from the outside world looking in – Brian had to go. I think we all agree that Adkins has made us a much more attractive side to watch and come next season, will be able to bring in his own players that fit into this system.
