The Royals have made their second signing of the day in the form of Carlisle defender Ian Harte. The former Leed’s man has penned a 2 year deal for an undisclosed fee on his 33rd birthday.

Harte has had a fine career including champions league experience with Leeds, as well as spells with Levante in Spain, and Sunderland. He joined Carlisle in March 2009 and was their top scorer last season with 21 goals in all competitions.

He also has 60 caps for the Republic of Ireland and played in the 2002 World Cup in Asia.

The defender was delighted to sign for the club and told the Official Site, ‘I’m chuffed to be here, it happened very quickly and I’m really looking forward to meeting the lads now I have been given the oppurtunity to come to a fantastic club.’

It’s unclear whether Harte has been signed as a left back, or a centre back but he will add great versatility to the squad. He also has an excellent free kick on him and is sure to pop up with the odd goal.

Signing Harte and Kizhanishvili has added some much needed experience to our defence.

Really pleased with this signing, quite low key but will be a terrific addition to the squad. Can play left or centre back and scores goals!

  • Vanilla Ice says:

Over 10 goals last season from left back… says it all!
