Hands off The Sig!

Icelandic midfield maestro Sigurdsson only progressed through the clubs academy and into the first team last summer. Infact he only signed a 3 year contract back in December but the player of the season has been rewarded for his fine performances.

He has been given a three year contract, with improved terms to scare off interest from Premier League clubs thought to be looking at securing his services. The likes of Fulham and West Brom are keen to sign the midfielder but the idea of sitting on a premiership team’s bench does not interest Sigurdsson.

He told the Reading Post, ‘It’s important to play rather than go and sit on the bench somewhere else. I like it at Reading and I’m not looking to move at this point.’

The deal is expected to be signed when he returns from international duty this weekend and is set to make him one of the top earners at the club.

Excellent to see we are acting quickly to reward him, but not sure a new contract can guarantee he will stay at the club….
