Griffin play’s waiting game

Andy Griffin had been expected to join the Royals this summer, however in an interview with a local paper in Stoke he is still unsure what the future holds, but it could mean a stay at the Brittania Stadium. The right back enjoyed a succesful loan spell at the Mad Stad at the end of last season and Brian McDermott is keen to keep him at the club.

Griffin told The Sentinel, ‘Reading manager Brian McDermott has said he would like me back and has let that be known. He knows me as a character and what kind of player I am, but we will have to wait and see what happens on that one. I`m not going to just dismiss an offer from them, but I`m not sure what will happen over the summer. I`ll stay by the telephone and wait and see.’

Whilst he clearly enjoyed playing regular first team football again, he does not want to relocate his family from the Stoke area and must weigh up the importance of game time over family happiness. ‘The family is in Stoke, the children go to school around the corner, so I don`t want to uproot the family. I`d have to look at Reading. The location is not perfect, but if that one was to progress further then it`s something I would have to take into consideration.’

Whatever happens, Griffin knows that if he joined the Royals he would be at a club that wanted him, guaranteed him first team football and appreciated what he can bring to the team. It is doubtful whether he could get that at Stoke anymore.
