Emerse Fae and Kalifa Cisse may have found life tough at the start of their Reading careers but Nicky Hammond remains more than confident that they will be a success at the Madejski Stadium.

“It’s been a tough introduction for both our new boys,” Hammond told the Reading Evening Post.

Club record signing Fae, at £2.5million from Nantes is a central midfielder by trade but has to be used in a right sided position for most of his matches so far this season, which have not been affective. Hammond also told the Reading Evening Post, “I think Fae has shown some real positive criteria. He’s a central midfielder who has been playing on the right. He has been thrown into the deep end in that respect but I thought there were some encouraging signs.

“There are a lot of things that he’ll need to learn that we do here as a matter of course – particularly that defensive awareness.

“I don’t think there’s a lack of enthusiasm to do it, but it’s just the way we go about things. That’s only natural when you come to a new club; you have to understand what the requirements are. But I think he has shown some real positive criteria being able to affect the game going forward.

Ciise, who signed from Boavista has also found the going tough but Hammond is convinced that the pair will come good, so we should have little or no reason to doubt him, Steve Coppell or anyone else with their decision making in bringing them to the club.

It is always difficult coming to a new country, even more so if you are playing out of position. Both are good signings for Reading, and both will prove their worth when they settle, which takes time.
