Reading striker Kevin Doyle has been named the official Powerade Championship player of the month.

The Royals have moved up to third place in the Championship table and Doyle’s contribution has been epic, scoring five times in five games in September, including a hat-trick against Sheffield Wednesday.

Doyle has racked up eight goals already this season and his currently top of the scoring charts in the Championship.

Burnley midfielder Joey Gudjonsson, Derby’s Martin Albrechtsen and Michael Kightly of Wolves were also in the running for the award.

Chairman of the Powerade Player of the Month Awards panel, Chris Kamara, told Football-league.co.uk: ‘Kevin Doyle is a wonderful talent who first burst onto the scene a couple of years ago. He had a quiet year by his standards last season but his appetite for the game seems to have returned and he’s enjoying a wonderful start to the current campaign. His goals haul in September speaks for itself and has helped keep the Royals firmly in touch at the top of the Championship.’

Elsewhere Jermaine Beckford of Leeds United won the League One award and Exeter City captain Matthew Gill picked up the League Two award.
