Cisse and Marek on the way out

Midfielders Cisse and Matejovsky were both signed when we were a Premiership club but despite the occasional good performance, have failed to live up to expectations. So much so that both have struggled to make an impact Championship level, although Marek could blame injuries for that.

Both players have a year left on their contracts and could possibly command a transfer fee, and the move would free up some much needed space for wages as both are likely to be amoung the highest earners at the club.

With the number of centre midfielders we have at the club, shipping these too out would certainly be beneficial and in an interview with the Reading Chronicle, manager Brian McDermott was keen to do what was best for the players.

‘Marek and Kalifa are getting to that age now where they need to be playing regularly and they may need to go somewhere else to make that happen. We’ll see what comes of the situation over the summer but if they are not playing here they may look at other options.’

With Marcus Williams signed and Sigurdsson commited for next season at least, moving these two on could continue the rebuilding job.

Mareks goal at Anfield and Cisse’s stunner at Bristol City were great memories, but they were few and far between.

Have to say that in the matches i went to this season, Cisse looked like a rock in the middle. With the revenue generated from the two though, a decent midfield marshall shouldn’t be too hard to find, perhaps an old timer with bags of experience? Or alternately look towards using some of the cash to contribute to getting Kizanishvilli on a perminant basis?
