Winger Antonio, who arrived from non league Tooting and Mitcham in 2008, has spent the majority of this season on loan at League One Southampton after making his Royals debut in August 2009. He has scored seven goals in his time at St Mary’s, including one of the goals at Wembley in the final of the Johnstones Paint trophy.

He was out of contract at the end of the season but the Royals had the option to add a further year to the original deal he signed, and we have now taken that option.

Antonio is likely to play a part in the Royals first team next season after his apprenticeship in league football down on the South Coast.

Whilst this lad has been impressive at Southampton, I don’t think he has got what it takes to compete for a first team place with us next season. Be interesting to hear Saints fans views….

I dont think Reading have serious plans for him myself. He has been great for Saints and it would be good for all parties if a deal could be agreed. However I cant see it as Reading look to have upped the game by agreeing the extra years contract. I don’t think Saints will bent over and will probably go elsewhere.
