Neil Warnock hailed last night’s game with Reading at Bramhall Lane as a great advert for Championship football and he also conceded that the Royals deserve their twelve point lead.

Warnock was not so happy about the chances that his side wasted, even though he should really have been thankful that goalkeeper Paddy Kenny guessed the right way to save a late Kitson penalty.

He said: ‘I thought it was a cracking match but I thought we deserved to win. It looked like we were going to get beaten 2-1 which would have been a travesty.

‘Don’t ask me how we missed those chances because I don’t know, I’m just glad they didn’t get our chances.’

Of Reading he said:

‘They are the best side by a mile because the league table never lies.’

Steve Coppell popped his head back round the press-room door last night to ask for the code to open the exit door. The Reading manager may not know his way out of Bramall Lane, but he has the key to the Barclays Premiership after this result.
