The QPR-Brentford derby kicks-off the Championship fixtures on Friday night with the Bees travelling to Loftus Road aiming to collect three-points, which hasn’t often been the case when visiting the R’s in most recent times.
Brighton’s consistency, which has been fairly solid, has seen Albion climb up to second place in the Championship so they’ll look to keep that place but if this is to happen they’ll have to overcome Norwich, who come to the Amex Stadium themselves looking to come back into the automatic promotion places.
Neil Warnock’s unbeaten run is something he’ll hope to keep as Cardiff boss when the Bluebirds welcome struggling Wigan, who sacked Gary Caldwell in midweek, to the Cardiff City Stadium.
After slipping from top ‘as low’ as fourth Huddersfield moved back up to third after the last match with Fulham hosting the Terriers on as David Wagner looks to keep the promotion credentials on track.
Kenny Jackett returned to management this week when he took over at Rotherham, who recently parted with Alan Stubbs who had endured a disastrous spell with the Millers. A match at Ipswich will kick-off his spell.
A repeat of the midweek League Cup tie, which was played at St James’ Park though, will see Preston face leaders Newcastle once again. The Toon would happily take another six-nil win but with PNE likely to make wholesale changes against such a scenario wouldn’t be expected….would it?
Reading’s own League Cup adventure ended in defeat to Arsenal with the Royals hosting Nottingham Forest, who are once again struggling this season when better would have been expected. Also struggling are Blackburn, and to a lesser extend, Wolves. The short spell of Walter Zenga (who of course replaced Jackett) at Wolves ended this week with the Italian dismissed.
A derby will round of the weekend when Birmingham and Aston Villa meet at St Andrew’s, which will also take Villa boss Steve Bruce back to a club he enjoyed success with previously.
We can say it goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result.
