It was highly unlikely that Jay Tabb was going to sign a new deal at Reading anyway, but has revealed that he needs a change.

The 29-year old joined Championship side Ipswich Town on loan last month, but after impressing boss Mick McCarthy, will be offered a deal at the end of the season by the Suffolk side. Tabb revealed that scouts from Reading had been watching his performances, but said the time is right to move on.

Quoted by BBC Sport, the former Coventry midfielder said: ‘I’ve had four and a half good years at Reading but sometimes a change is a good thing I’m 29 now, I’ve got a few good years left in me and when I look at what I want to achieve in the rest of my career – I want to get back into the Premier League.’

It’s a shame to see Jay go, but he has always been a bit part player here and deserves his chance to start week in-week out else where. A player that always gave his all, but lacked the necessary quality in centre midfield to survive in the Premier League.
