Gunter: We owe the fans

Reading defender Chris Gunter has said the squad want to win Sunday’s relegation showdown with QPR, especially for the fans.

Whoever loses the crunch game at the Madejski Stadium this Sunday will be relegated, while a draw would only delay the inevitable for both sides. Obviously it appears that the season is over for both teams, but Gunter says the squad want to get a result for the fans.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Gunter said: ‘Once you step onto the pitch it doesn`t matter what`s riding on the game, you`ll guarantee every Reading player will be wanting to get the three points. That`s the case in any league game, we have a duty to ourselves and the fans who are coming to the game.’

‘On Sunday we`ll be trying to win it, looking forward to it and hopefully we can get three points for the fans. It`ll be nice to put on a performance and get some points for them. They`ve stuck with us. It would make for a great afternoon.’

It has been hard to criticise our effort this season, but our lack of quality has truly let us down. My only expectation from now until the end of the season is to not finish bottom, so a win this Saturday would do us a few favours on that front and hopefully boost the confidence.
