It’s not been a great week so far after the result on Saturday, as Jaap Stam is still somehow in the job and our new signing was dealt a large injury blow.

Despite several media reports on Sunday claiming that Stam was set to be removed from his position of manager and a journalist from The Sun saying training was cancelled on Sunday, the Dutchman has lived to fight another day. This is despite a dreadful run of form with just one win in ten games.

The large majority of fans, myself included, are now of the opinion that Stam needs to go, despite the wonders he worked last year. We are the only club in the bottom six to have not sacked their manager and despite being six points clear, relegation is certainly a major concern currently.

The quality of football is dropping rapidly, as are attendances, so it is baffling how the Dutchman is still in the job. He took press conference duties today, as it seems he lives to fight another week and it does make you wonder, how much longer will he be able to survive.

Some more bad news is that our on-loan defender Tommy Elphick will be missing for six weeks after having a minor operation on a knee injury picked up on Saturday. The 30-year old had a really encouraging home debut in his first 30 minutes, before injury meant he had to be brought off.

This leaves us seriously short at the back, with skipper Paul McShane still out injured and Blackett’s form borderline disastrous. There is now no more scope for loans, but the free agent market could be one that Stam may look to explore. While the problems are piling up, he isn’t helping himself!
