Reading could be faced with a difficult decision in January, do they or do they not sell Nicky Shorey, who is keeping his options open.
Even though Shorey still has two years left on his current contract, he has so far refused to sign a new contract, and has now told the Evening Standard that he would be daft to say that he will be with Reading next year.
At the same time though he has also said that he will continue to work hard and give his all for Reading this season, which implies that he will stay for at least this season.
The problem is though should Reading keep him and he still doesn’t sign a new contract they would get significantly less for him next summer than they would in January, and obviously nothing if he sees out his contract.
Reading have seen this happen with Steve Sidwell, so they will be keen to avoid a repeat of that.

A move to one of the real top sides in the Premiership would be understandable, but most others will not really give Shorey anything more than what he currently has with Reading. He knows that he can still play for England playing at Reading, so should only really leave Reading for a club that can guarantee him trophy success, and not many teams can assure that, the ones that can probably will not be looking for Shorey?
a move to a top four yes but how do you feel about West Ham sniffing around him?
I would completely agree, a move to a any of the top four or a team that will genuinely challenge for at least a Uefa Cup place each season fair enough, but not West Ham, not being funny to them as they are a good side, just not good enough to leave Reading for.
