Sheffield Wednesday have been knocked-back in a second bid for Reading winger Michail Antonio.
The 22-year old has been chased by the newly-promoted Championship side for over two months now, with Owls boss Dave Jones still content on getting his target this summer. Wednesday bid around £350,000 for Antonio in late May, but was turned down by Reading, who were holding out for around double that amount at £700,000.
McDermott told GetReading: ‘There`s been an offer, but we`ve turned it down. I`m not sure how much we have heard since. Michail`s view is that there are a lot of players in front of him, so he needs to move on for his career. That`s absolutely fine and I understand that. He`s training well and working well. We love Michail, so we will see what happens.’
The second bid offered by the Owls, who are also in Portugal on their pre-season tour, is unknown but is believed to be around £500,000. Director of Football Nicky Hammond has also flown to Portugal if the Owls wanted to complete any deal for the former Southampton winger, who is currently the fifth-choice winger at the Madejski Stadium.

How do you know that McDermott was referring to a second bid? Nothing he said suggested that this was a new bid. He could be referring to the bid of 350k from weeks ago.
I’m sure Wednesday would have made an improved offer since then, Jones seems keen on getting him.
It’s going to end in tears
