Save Our Steve

Last night Reading fans gave Steve Coppell something to think about, as they put into action a Save Our Steve campaign to convince the Royals manager to stay at the club.

Reading fans gathered by Coppell`s parking space outside the Madejski Stadium, brandishing signs and banners to beg there saviour to stay.

Despite the Royals` relegation, Steve Coppell is still hugely popular amongst the Reading faithful and Royals fans believe that should he stay the team will have a great chance of returning to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Coppell, who has stated that he will take a few days off to think before deciding on his future, has admitted that he holds a special place in his heart for Reading fans.

He said, ‘I was touched by the reception I had after the Derby game on Sunday.

‘That wouldn`t have happened at any other club. They are unique and their response does have a bearing on my future.’

When Coppell was told of the fans campaign to get him to stay he responded in a jovial manner, ‘Just as well it isn`t p***ing it down because there wouldn`t have been many there and I hope they know I drive a small car so they won`t fit many people in there!

‘I can`t be there because my son is doing his GCSEs and I`m having dinner with him, but it is a lovely thought and sums up Reading fans.’

Although Coppell`s mind is far from made up, this effort from the loyal Royals may just sway Steve Coppell to take the Royals back into the Premier League.

If he stays, I’m quietly confident we’ll go straight back up. If he leaves, we’re doomed, DOOMED I TELL YOU!!!
