Reading are set to sign Grimsby Town youngster Lewis Collins, who has reportedly been chased by top Premier League clubs.

The 16-year old has been approached by officials from the Championship club and have offered Collins a two-year scholarship, with a possible option year on a professional contract. The player has accepted the offer and both Reading and Grimsby are discussions over a fee for the young midfielder.

Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph, Collins said: ‘I’m really, really excited and I’m looking forward to it. Reading are a big club and, no disrespect to Grimsby, but I felt like the move was too good to turn down. It gives me a great opportunity to make it as a player and I’m really excited about it.’

It appears that Collins is a midfielder, who has a good scoring record at youth level. It’s good to see we are attempting to breed local talent, rather than opting for cheaper, foreign options. Let’s hope it works out for young Lewis.
