Reading owner Anton Zingarevich has spoken of the qualities of the Royals’ new striker Pavel Pogrebnyak.

The 28-year old joined Brian McDermott’s side last month in a rather shock move, considering many other Premier League and European sides were chasing the former Stuttgart player. Zingarevich even went to the Russian Euro 2012 camp in Poland to discuss the move with Pogrebnyak, but does claim that nationality had nothing to do with the move.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Anton said: ‘He is a player Brian wanted for some time, at the end of last season we started talking about it. It wasn’t anything to do with nationality, it was all about the qualities he had which fitted in with the Reading way. You can see that in the way he trains and the attributes he has in his game.’

‘Brian really wanted to bring him in and it was a difficult deal to do but we convinced Pavel that he will have a bright future here. We have added quality to our squad, we already had a good group but we have added a little extra to strengthen it. There is healthy competition within the squad now, so we are in a good position.’
