Vital Reading Season Preview – Liverpool

Club: Liverpool

Founded: 1982

Nickname: The Reds

Ground: Anfield (Capacity: 45,552)

When we face off: Sat 20th October (A), Sat 13th April (H)

Last season finish: 8th – Premier League

Manager: Brendan Rodgers – The former Reading manager has certainly shown his true managerial credentials since leaving the Royals back in December 2009, gaining promotion with Swansea and following it up with a solid Premier League finish.

Key player: Steven Gerrard – It may seem the obvious choice, but when you look at Rodgers’ flowing system, you have to look at that midfield and say that it needs players to make them tick.

The talismanic skipper has been such a servant for the Reds over the years and if he stays fit for the majority of the season, he can really make a difference to Liverpool’s fortunes this campaign.

Season Preview: The questions remains, will Brendan Rodgers’ system work at Anfield? I believe that short-term it won’t but long-term it will. I think he will need a few seasons to get his system fully implemented.

I don’t think the Champions League places are beyond Liverpool, but it could be a big ask for them. They certainly will get into Europe, but don’t have the fire power to match the likes of Chelsea, Man City or Man Utd.
