Eddie Johnson, the Kansas City Wizards forward is set to join Reading on what is being called an educational visit.

Johnson, 22, has astonishingly scored nine goals in 20 appearances for his country.

But true to form, Reading`s Steve Coppell played down the situation:

“He’s just coming over for an educational visit. He’ll see how we do things and have a look at how we prepare.

‘It’s the off season in the States so the opportunity is there, and he’s just someone who has been on the radar for a lot of clubs.’

With the MLS season over, it is being regarded as an opportunity for the player to learn how the club works and gain a greater understanding of the English game.

While at the club, Johnson will link up with fellow American`s Marcus Hahnemann and Bobby Convey.

Various reports suggest that the player could be looking to make a permanent move to the club in the upcoming January transfer window, but Coppell was quick to dismiss any such claims:

‘I wouldn’t like to speculate on what might happen in the future. We haven’t explored any possible transfer.’

Johnson featured in America`s World Cup squad last summer and came on as a substitute against Ghana and the Czech Republic.
