Royals fans always the last to find out

With the snow stopping me getting into the office today, I spent the morning flicking through the internet whilst ‘working’ from home and was shocked to read an interview with Nicky Hammond on the Reading Post website. Our director of football said that he has not been told to draw up a short list for the apparantly vacant managers job at the club, and they have certainly not interviewed anyone.

Whilst that probably confirmed what we all knew already, that McDermott will get the job until the end of the season, why do we never hear anything official from the club?

Apart from an interview just after Rodgers was sacked, where he cleverly didn’t say anything, Madejski has been so quite it’s untrue and the only real info we have had is brief snippets of inverviews in the local media with Hammond. He declared on Radio Berkshire after the Plymouth game that there are only likely to be departures in the transfer window, and then this about the clubs search, or lack of, for a new manager.

If McDermott is to be given the job he clearly the cheap option, however much he will deny it, but if we have no money then thats the best option for the club. Calling him a yes man would be unfair but he will certainly be much happier working with the current squad than someone like Iain Dowie or Glenn Hoddle would, and that will be music to Madejski’s ears.

Quite why we sacked Rodgers so hastily when we had no idea where we would go next is beyond me, but that isn’t the point.

What gets me is that no one tells us fans what is going on, not even another brief interview on the official site with someone from the board just to keep us informed of current developments. Even if that is just to say that McDermott will remain in charge as they still haven’t decided what direction they wish to take next. It would certainly stop the frustrations and also wild speculation of unknown Spanish managers bringing Andy ‘Bushes’ Bernal in as part of an ‘exciting’ management team!

It really would not surprise me if we got no official word on the manager, with McDermott continuing right through to the end of the season whilst Madejski kept a low profile.

Whats happening RFC? You were quick to tell us all the ‘fantastic’ news during our Premiership years – we only want to be kept informed.
