Image for Royals end Davey’s Barnsley reign

It was back in April that a 0-0 draw at home to Barnsley put a massive dent in our automatic promotion hopes last season, thus playing a part in Steve Coppell leaving the Royals. Just over 4 months later and it was a 3-1 win at Oakwell that put paid to Simon Davey’s tenure as Barnsley manager.

The Tykes have made an awful start to the new season, with just one point from 5 games, and it was Noel Hunt’s second half double that put the final nail in Davey’s coffin.

After the game Barnsley fans demonstrated against Davey, and (probably!) before the Royals had made it back to the motorway he had parted company with the club – the old ‘mutual consent’ covering up another managerial sacking.
