Reading manager Brian McDermott has stated that the Berkshire club are in talks to bring in players this summer.

The 51-year old has only made one signing so far this summer, which was the acquisition of free transfer Garath McCleary last month. McDermott is still keen however to bring in more new faces into the Reading squad, to strengthen for the new Premier League campaign in two months time.

McDermott told the Reading Post: “We have our targets and we will see what happens. Just because we are in talks doesn`t mean it is necessarily going to happen. We are trying to get players in, but with any good player there is always going to be competition to sign him from elsewhere.’

The Royals have been linked with many names in the past two months, with the likes of Jermaine Defoe and Yakubu even mentioned as possible targets. Following the takeover from TSI, Director of Football Nicky Hammond has said Reading are now in a more secure financial situation to welcome bigger signings to the club.

THink you’d have to pay some pretty astronomical wages for Defoe. He was our highest earner until Modric signed his current deal. Looking forward to seeing what kind of players head to Reading though. McDermott has a very good record at buying from below so hopefully he can match that with some great signings from the top. A couple of ready made Prem players are key

Agreed, think we need some Premier League experience in our squad. Only a handful of players in our squad have played in the Prem so hopefully he will spend wisely!
