Reading manager Brian McDermott has once again emphasised he is not concerned about the opposition his team face, but getting them prepared for the Premier League.

The former Slough Town boss has always maintained his ‘one game at a time policy’ during his managerial tenure and that will not change following promotion to the Premier League. The Royals’ first game will be against Tony Pulis’ Stoke side at the Madejski Stadium, who have established themselves in the top division after promotion in 2008.

Speaking to the Reading Post, McDermott said: “I look at the first couple of games, then around Christmas and then the last couple of fixtures, and that is what I generally do. This is the best league in the world with some of the best players in the world. At the start of the season we will aim to do our very best, and after game one we move on to game two.’

‘It is important the players are all prepared and ready to go.”In that time to come back and manage to come back in the way that we did is an incredible achievement from the staff, players and supporters. To have 18,000 season ticket holders backing us next season is just phenomenal following the year that we have had. It’s an incredible achievement from the staff, players and supporters’
