After fourteen goals between the two sides in their previous two meetings, it was somewhat surprising that this one was kept to one nil.

A Robbie Keane goal after fifteen minutes was enough to settle this tie, although there could and perhaps should have been more goals for both sides.

Reading started the brightest and should have had a penalty when Leroy Lita was bundled over after Radek Cerny could only parry Lita’s attempted lob. The verdict however was a free kick to Spurs and Lita was booked for apparent simulation.

Spurs went in front after fifteen minutes when Younes Kaboul’s close range header hit the bar, and Spurs captain Robbie Keane was on hand to tap in his 99th goal for the club.

Tottenham could have gone further ahead had it not been for some excellent goalkeeping from Reading’s reserve ‘keeper Adam Federici.

There were chances for both sides as the game neared it’s conclusion, with Royals’ sub Stephen Hunt coming the closest as he hit the bar from long range.

Spurs held on for a fairly comfortable win and now face the daunting prospect of travelling to Old Trafford in the next round.
