Reading striker Jason Roberts has said his recovery from a hip problem is going slower than anticipated.

The 34-year old has not played for the Royals since their 1-0 defeat to Southampton in early December, but has been working hard in training to try and improve his situation. Roberts would have been an ideal replacement for the suspended Pavel Pogrebnyak in the coming games, but will have to watch from the stands with the Russian.

Speaking to the Reading FC website, Jason said: ‘It’s going slowly with the hip – there’s no time scale on it but as soon as we possibly can do we will do. We’ll keep working hard on the training ground to get it right. It’s been very slow but that’s the nature of the injury – it’s not a cut and dry one. We’re working as hard as we can to get it right.’

Roberts very much divides opinion among Royals fans, with some arguing he doesn’t really do enough to justify his position in the side. His only goal this season has come against Arsenal in Carling Cup back in October, so is yet to score in the Premier League this season.
