Reading to try luck with Defoe?

Reading could be tempted to make an ambitious offer for Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe, according to The Metro.

The 29-year old forward is keen to play regular football in the final years of his career and Brian McDermott would be able to guarantee Defoe this. The England international is behind in the pecking order to Emmanuel Adebayor and Louie Saha, with Spurs reportedly keen to sign another striker this summer.

However, Defoe’s wages would be a notable barrier to his move but could agree a share of this with Tottenham. The former Pompey striker has only made 11 starts for Spurs in the league this season and has become frustrated at his lack of starting opportunities at White Hart Lane. Other strikers that the Royals have been linked with are Icelandic striker Bjorn Sigardsson and Burnley’s Jay Rodriguez.

Certainly needs first team football, he is too good for the bench.

What does it say about the pedigree of Jermaine Defoe that those associated with him are recently promoted clubs, or mid-to-lower Premier League sides?

I am a massive fan of Defoe and would very much welcome this move. One of the most lethal finishers in this country, even though he is starting to lose that inch of pace he had a few years ago. Still has to be in the Euro 2012 squad imo.

Are you sure you want him, its a lot of money just for a striker, promoted clubs need investment in their defence and you can bet that levy will want a large sum for him

  • Y19-Royal says:

If we were to get him, it would most likely be a loan. But again, then wages would be a notable barrier.
