Reading, yes Reading I kid you not, are on the verge of signing former Real Madrid player Royston Drenthe.

The former Dutch international, according to voetbalprimeur.nl, has agreed a three-year deal with the Championship side and will complete his medical on Tuesday. Drenthe spent last season with Russian side Alania, but were relegated from the Russian top division.

Due to a relegation release clause in his contract, the one-time Dutch international will move to the Royals on a free transfer. The 26-year old, who made 65 appearances for Real Madrid, primarily plays as a left-winger, but can capably slot in as a left-back.

Like a minority of other quality players, he comes with a bit of previous baggage, with a falling out with David Moyes and being videoed drinking beer, while driving his Ferrari! Crazy stuff! Despite this, a player of his quality will do more good than bad for the club.

On the pitch, he is an unbelievable talent, has everything needed to be a top quality player, capable of starting for Everton, so no doubt he will dominate the Championship. The big problem about Drenthe is off field, he is a nutter, and is the reason why he isn’t playing at the very top. He was kicked out of Everton because he showed up to training intoxicated numerous times, missed training amongst other things. And from the looks of it, hasn’t changed since he has left. If you keep him straight off the field, then you have an unbelievable player, but I honestly cant see him sorting his ***** out.

Thanks Rob, pretty much sounds like the same story as Balotelli. Such great talent, but is often overshadowed. Hopefully his time here will settle him down, only time will tell.
