After Daryl Murphy’s late tackle on John Swift in the game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, unpleasant scenes between both sets of players resulted in the referee booking five players, in which one of the yellow cards resulted in a red card for Forest skipper Danny Fox. The FA have charged both Reading and Nottingham Forest for failing to control their players on the back of this.

Both clubs have until 6pm on Friday to respond to the charge, which could see both clubs being slapped with a considerable fine.

A spokesman from the FA said, “Reading and Nottingham Forest have been charged following their league match on 12/01/2019. It is alleged that they failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 62nd minute. Both clubs have until 6pm on 18/01/19 to respond to the charge.”

I can understand why the FA have taken action after the incident. However, I do think it would be unfair to fine either a club a huge amount of money. Both sets of players could have conducted themselves in a more professional manner, especially as Daryl Murphy was always going to be booked for the challenge. The players should have accepted this and moved on, but obviously this did not happen.
