After the Man Utd game in his post-match press conference, Jose Gomes confirmed that Sporting Lisbon are interested in resigning Tiago Ilori.

Reports in Portugal today suggest that the centre back has already agreed the terms to a move to the Portuguese side, and that the two clubs just need to strike a deal. At the moment, Reading want to recoup the majority of the £3m they paid for Ilori in 2016, but the Liga NOS side aren’t willing to pay that much for the Royals man. Portuguese newspaper Record have suggested that a £1.5m offer has already been rejected, but Sporting have lodged a new bid of around £2m.

I know Gomes wanted to reduce the squad, but Ilori is one player that I would rather the club didn’t let go. Tiago has established himself more and more this season as one of our first choice centre backs, and with Paul McShane on the transfer list and Wigan bidding for Tyler Blackett, centre back is one area that we can’t afford to get rid of many players.
