Reading boss talks transfers

Nigel Adkins is already formulating for transfer plans for next season and has also emphasised the club do not have to sell any of their players this summer.

The former Saints boss could do nothing about the imminent relegation to the Championship, but now our fate is confirmed, wants to start building for next season. Our solid financial situation will certainly be of great benefit to Adkins, who has already started penciling in potential targets for the summer transfer window.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: ‘Now we know what division we’ll be in, we can start to put in process our decisions for next season. We’ve had good conversations with the regime, the owner, and there’s a lot of ambition about the football club. Since we joined we’ve known potential targets for each division.’

‘And in terms of players moving on, we will do the business that we want to do, that’s the important message. It’s a well-run club and whatever business we do it’s because we want to do it. Like every club you cut your cloth accordingly, and players on X wages in the Premier League won’t be on that in the Championship, that is prudent.’

Very informative and honest quotes from Adkins again, also making it crystal clear that we are not in a position to have to sell this summer, as we have been in previous years. I’m sure Adkins will have great success in getting his targets this summer with the backing of Zingarevich, something McDermott did not take the chance of.
