Reading boss pleased with forwards

Reading manager Brian McDermott has said he is ecstatic with his strikers’ performances in their 7-0 win at AFC Wimbledon.


The 51-year old witnessed his side put seven past the League Two side, with Simon Church scoring a hat trick in the second half period. Fellow forward Adam Le Fondre scored two in the first half, with one from the penalty spot and the other a superbly-chipped finish a minute before half-time. The young duo of Michail Antonio and Jordan Obita scored the other two at the Kingsmeadow stadium.

‘The game was really good, I thought the players showed a fabulous attitude in both halves. We used 23 players and it shows we’ve got what we think is a good group. Jordan scored, Michail scored and I thought we played some really good football at times. It was good for the new guys to fit in. We came through it fit with no injuries, now we look forward to Portugal.’


Many rumours circulating have suggested that Church could be on his way out of Berkshire, with a possible loan move to the Championship a likely destination. If Royals boss Brian McDermott is after another striker in the new window, it could push the Welsh international further down the pecking order.
