Watford showed Reading what defensive play is all about at the Mad Stad this afternoon after the two sides drew 0-0 for the second time this season.

Reading put the visitors under pressure for most of the game, but could not find the break through against Adrian Boothroy’s side who themselves still stand a very good chance of promotion either via the play offs or in second place.

Reading did have a few chances to take the lead, Brynjar Gunnarsson hit a post and their were two goal line clearances made by Watford, Malky Mackay and Lloyd Doyley bring the heroes.

But it wasn’t all one way traffic, Ashley Young and Chris Eagles were both pacey enough to cause Reading problems when they got a chance to break. Marcus Hahnemann had to get his had to a cross from Eagles that fell into the path of Spring, he should have scored but somehow fired over.

After the excitement of the first half, the second half proved to be a little stale in places and although the home side gained the upper hand again late on, they could not find a goal.

That’s a good result for the royals, particularly as Sheff Utd lost and Leeds only managed a draw. How many more points until automatic promotion is guaranteed?
