Poyet hinting at Reading move?

Yesterday afternoon, Brighton boss Gus Poyet was celebrating a superb 3-0 victory over Palace, but his interview afterwards was interesting to say the least…..

The question was put to Poyet when interviewed after the game on BBC Radio 5 Live and reportedly didn’t rule out a move to the Madejski Stadium. I didn’t hear the exact quotes from Poyet in that interview, but I managed to find these quotes after the game from The Argus:

‘If you need to leave, your last game at the football club, this is the perfect way to leave and to finish a career. This is a day to stop time and stay here forever. I’d like to finish a season like this.’

After I read that first sentence, the good ole’ cliche that is ‘no smoke without a fire’ comes to mind. A lot of the tabloids are saying that director of football Nicky Hammond is a personal admirer of the former Spurs assistant manager, who is reportedly on the five-man shortlist.

Many are saying that if Poyet was to move to the Madejski it would be a sideways move, which is likely to be true in some senses. However, I think he would have better resources under Anton compared to Brighton and would probably have a better chance of going back up, with no offence to Brighton whatsoever.

I would personally be very keen to have Poyet appointed as the manager, for more long-term than short-term measures. Hopefully it would allow him to change our footballing philosophy and give us more of a chance to compete in the Premier League if were to bounce back to the Prem.
