After the club confirmed that Alex Pearce signed a new contract, he appears to love the club again!

The 24-year old opted to sign a new-two year deal, despite being officially released by the club at the start of June. Pearce’s reasons for not signing a contract appeared to be over wages, but it seems he could well of been holding out for a Premier League move to Liverpool, which did not materialise.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Pearce said: ‘Everyone knows Reading is close to my heart – I have come through the ranks since I was 12 years old. To be playing for this club is a great feeling and it feels great putting pen to paper. It has taken a little while but I always said that I wanted to stay at Reading.’

‘I`m so thankful that I can be a Reading player. I`ve said that I wanted to feel valued, and that`s the case now. It`s great to be part of something that we can build on this year. I can`t wait to get my teeth stuck into this promotion campaign, we`ve done it once before and we`ll be looking to do it once again.”

Interesting U-turn from Pearce, but he still be the same badge-kissing, passionate player he was in Reading fans’ eyes? I can understand if it was purely for wages and if he was being offered way off the average, but I suppose we will never know. Either way, it is much more positive than negative.
